2010 XC Nationals Pre-Ride

See how the pros manage when things get technical!
EPIC MTB are offering a chance to ride the Nationals course with some of Ireland’s top Elite and Master’s riders.

This is aimed at sports level riders who are unsure what to expect from the Nationals and would benefit from a view pointers on line selection and race technique.

With EPIC’s reputation for building highly technical course we want to show riders that the whole course is rideable and that every level of competitor should give the Nationals a go!.” Luke Smaul, EPIC MTB

IrishXCMTB have been given 20 places to give away. These will be on a first come first server bases.
Please email lukesmaul@gmail.com to reserve a place.

These will be run from 10am 17th July at Djouce lower carpark. Riders must be self sufficient. This is to be treated as a self guided spin and the pro rider is only there to offer advice but each rider is responsible for their own safety and bike.

Irish XC National Champs 2010 – more details!

Saturday
Get Geared Up!
Saturday will be all about race prep. Get yourself signed up, grab a coffee and head out on the course to pick some killer lines. Just make sure you don’t stand still for too long as you might be given a job!
There will also be a few local trail heroes on hand to offer advice on bike setup and race tactics.
We will also have some top XC racers giving guided laps of the course during the day….details to follow
Sign on open – 13:00 – 16:00
Note: No camping will be allowed in the field.
Sunday
Get your race face on!
As the racers prep their bikes in the Team Village, families and loved ones are welcome to enjoy all of the festivities from our in house DJ to face painting and a Bouncy Castle.
Things get serious at 12:00 with the kick off of the sports race. Knowing the way EPIC build courses this is even likely to attract a few DH legends. Any sand baggers found in the sports field will be in for a mandatory face painting! All the race action will be streamed live to massive outdoor screens in the car park and Richie Byrne will be on hand to offer some EPIC style commentary!
Rider Up! – The day will then really start to hot up at 13:30 with the start of the Elite Men’s race.
Note that riders will be gridded according to the 2010 XC NPS positions.
A separate post will be issued on this site advising of the grid positions.
A number of riders are tipped for a win here but with each of them calling Djouce ‘home’ this is sure to be a battle of EPIC proportions. Hot on the heels of the Elite Men will be the Elite Ladies followed up the climb of the death by Junior Men, Vets and then, by what guarantees to be the race of the day, Masters!
If you’re not first you’re last! – After what promises to be some world class racing we’ll have all the riders in and  there will be no expense spared in congratulating the winners and loser of the day as we crown our new National Champion!
Online Registration:
Online Registration for the XC Nationals will open just after the last NPS of the year on Monday 5th July.
Here is the link for the online registration, make sure to check back on the 5th of July to register!!

This superb venue offers everything that is great about Irish mountain biking. The venue, coupled with EPIC MTB’s track record in coordinating world-class competitive events, guarantees the success of the 2010 Championships

EPIC MTB will build on the success of the 2009 ‘EPIC Blast’ which won the much-coveted Irish Cycling Event of the Year in 2009 and the 2010 championships will showcase Irish Cross Country MTB racing to an international standard.

To ensure success, EPIC MTB have teamed up with FD K Capital Source (K Capital), strong supporters of Cross Country MTB, both nationally and internationally. EPIC’s drive and determination matched with K Capital’s passion for the sport is a winning combination that is sure to deliver a world-class event.

In addition to 10 races covering all MTB categories, the event will feature an all-day DJ, food and beverage stalls, streamed race footage, a children’s bouncing castle, face painting and much more. In addition to K Capital as lead sponsor, EPIC is pleased to welcome Grange Motors, Moto-Pitstop, Spoke.ie, Saddle Skedaddle, Hivar Engineering, Auto Care, U-Pak, and Clear Division as sponsors of the event.

Richie Byrne, Founder of EPIC MTB, commented “Mountain Biking is coming home to the best venue in Ireland for the K Capital XC Irish Championships this year. We are truly excited about the opportunity to build on the success of the EPIC Blast in 2009 and bring Irish XC racing up to a truly international standard. The event will showcase world class Irish and international riders and also the awe inspiring venue that is Djouce Woods.”

He added “We believe this event will continue to broaden the appeal of Mountain Biking in Ireland and we have a full range of competitive events covering the Junior, Sports, Masters and Elite categories. We are also pleased to partner again with the K Capital team whose commitment to the sport is second to none.”
